Building the Future of Financial Automation: Salt at the Hyperliquid Community Hackathon

Last weekend, over 250 builders gathered in London for the Hyperliquid Community Hackathon, hosted by Encode Club. Salt decided to sponsor and support the local Hyperliquid community.

It was a productive 48 hours of building, mentoring, and experimentation as teams explored what’s possible when you combine high-performance on-chain trading on Hyperliquid with policy-driven execution through Salt.

Salt x Hyperliquid: a shared vision for transparent, self-sovereign finance

Our decision to sponsor the Hyperliquid hackathon wasn’t just about supporting builders; it was about reinforcing a shared vision for how financial systems should work in a fully on-chain world.

Hyperliquid is building toward a fully on-chain open financial system, complete with a transparent on-chain order book and price-time priority matching. This architecture eliminates opaque intermediaries and gives users direct visibility into how their orders are executed. Salt complements this vision perfectly by making the authorisation layer equally explicit and transparent.

In traditional systems, security often creates an impossible choice: either maintain tight manual control (limiting speed and automation), or hand over full access to automated systems (creating massive risk). The default assumption is “whoever has the key can do anything.” Salt solves this by introducing a third way: execution can be constrained by policies, spend limits, risk boundaries, venue restrictions, and more, rather than relying on unlimited key access.

As Hyperliquid makes it easier for sophisticated participants to interact with markets directly, Salt enables that trajectory by allowing delegation without surrendering custody. Builders can create automation that is permissioned and bounded instead of relying on raw private keys or broad API access.

48 hours, endless possibilities

What struck us most about this hackathon was seeing just how much builders could accomplish with Salt in a single weekend. Many teams integrated Salt as their wallet execution stack, using it as a real-time policy engine for their Hyperliquid-native trading strategies. Using Salt’s open permissionless MPC stack and our SDK, hackathon participants quickly built sophisticated applications that would have taken weeks to develop from scratch.

The ease of integration was a recurring theme throughout the event. A member of the winning team noted:

What I loved most was how clean the Salt model is. Policies are explicit. Decisions are explainable. Approvals and rejections surface directly to users. Setup was very straightforward, the dashboard was very easy to use, and it allowed us to integrate Salt across our entire system without rewriting huge chunks of the app.

This isn’t accidental. Salt is designed to be the missing control plane for automation: simple enough to set up in hours, powerful enough to secure millions in assets.

We were also proud to have Paros on the ground mentoring hackathon participants. Paros, a Salt partner and agent that enables automated capital management directly from the Salt wallet, provided invaluable guidance to teams building on our infrastructure. Their expertise helped builders understand how to harness Salt’s full capabilities for safe, automated execution.

Monsoon: AI-powered trading with built-in guardrails

The standout project of the hackathon was Monsoon, built by Eli Belilty, Yutaka Shibata, and Nidhushkar Raveelackshman. Monsoon won both the Salt Bounty and the Community Prize — and for good reason.

Monsoon is an AI trading assistant that lets users execute trades on Hyperliquid using natural language, while Salt’s guardrails layer ensures every trade stays within predefined risk boundaries. Here’s how it works:

  1. Users describe their trading intent in plain language
  2. The AI agent translates that into executable trades on Hyperliquid (spot & perpetuals)
  3. Salt enforces spend limits, venue restrictions, and risk constraints before execution
  4. Every decision and action is fully auditable

Instead of exposing users to unchecked autonomous trading, Monsoon puts safety first, combining the convenience of AI-driven execution with the protection of programmatic risk controls. The result is a product that makes automated trading more accessible without compromising on safety or transparency.

The Monsoon team’s experience captures exactly what Salt is designed to enable. Here’s what they had to say:

Salt fundamentally changed how we thought about automation and safety. It lets us treat execution as something you explicitly grant permission for: not just handing over a private key with unlimited power!

In Monsoon, every trade request had to go through Salt first. Whether it came from a user, an AI agent, or an automated strategy, Salt would check it against our guardrails: spend limits, approved venues, timing windows, risk boundaries. Then it would either approve the request or reject it with a clear explanation and full audit trail. That gave us rock-solid, inspectable control over everything automated.

The team highlighted a critical pain point that Salt solves:

Without Salt, we’d have faced impossible trade-offs. Either give agents raw keys or API permissions (way too dangerous), or build our own policy engine from scratch (slow, fragile, and hard to trust). Salt gave us a battle-tested abstraction for safe delegation: which saved us weeks to develop ourselves.

The team is committed to continuing their work with Salt: “We are going to continue using and developing with Salt further, both for Monsoon and other projects!”
